Season one “American Idol” runner-up Justin Guarini has been cast as the male lead in the Broadway musical “Wicked.”
This will mark Guarini’s fourth major Broadway role, having also appeared on The Great White Way in “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,” “American Idiot” and “Romeo and Juliet.”
The 35-year-old actor will take over the role of Fiyero Tigelaar, the character who becomes Elphaba’s love interest. The character is an Arjiki prince from the Vinkus who attends Shiz University.
The former RCA Records recording artist makes his debut in the production on Feb. 25.
Prior to his run in “Wicked,” Guarini will perform on Valentine’s Weekend in “Lovesick” at the Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope, Penn. The show includes a nine-piece band and music from Burt Bacharach, Beck and Ben Folds. Guarini wrote the show.
