Byron Pitts: Leaving CBS News For ABC News

Byron Pitts

News man Byron Pitts is making a move. The 52-year-old chief national correspondent is leaving CBS News.

Pitts, a contributor to “60 Minutes,” is finalizing a deal to go ABC News.

The Baltimore-bred talent will be both a chief national correspondent and anchor at ABC News and will contribute to the network’s shows like “Good Morning America,” “Nightline,” and “20/20.” The latter show just saw its co-anchor Chris Cuomo leave for CNN. ABC’s Jake Tapper also left ABC News for CNN as well.

According to Politico, ABC News President Ben Sherwood is expected to announce the news next week.

Pitts move from CBS to ABC is a rare loss for “60 Minutes.” The acclaimed CBS weekly news magazine series typically tends to retain its talent.

Pitts joined “60 Minutes” in January 2009; he has been a national correspondent for CBS News since 2006.

ABC News declined to comment and obviously, Pitts is not responding to requests for comment.
