On Thursday, ABC revealed the confirmed contestants for season 19 of “Dancing with the Stars” during a live presentation on “Good Morning America.”
Premiering later this month, the show will include celebrities like “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” star Alfonso Ribeiro, Olympian Lolo Jones, TV journalist and radio host Tavis Smiley, “Duck Dynasty’s” Sadie Robertson, soap opera star Antonio Sabato Jr., iconic fashion designer Betsey Johnson, race car driver Michael Waltrip, “Mean Girls” actor Jonathan Bennett, “Back to the Future’s” Lea Thompson, “Pretty Little Liars” star Janel Parrish, actor and retired MMA champ Randy Couture, actor-comedian Tommy Chong, and YouTube star Bethany Mota.
Ribeiro will likely be a fan favorite going into the Disney competition series, having become popular on the former sitcom starring Will Smith for doing his signature Carlton Dance.
Biracial track and field star Jones is an Olympic gold medalist who has the stamina it takes for the grueling “Dancing with the Stars” rehearsal schedule. Like previously Olympians, she’s certainly one to watch this season.
Smiley, on the other hand, will have to be a strong dancer, as it’s unlikely he’ll have the fan vote. Once a popular political commentator and fixture in the African American community, the PBS host turned off loyal Black fans during his final months on the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show by campaigning against and constantly bashing presidential hopeful Barack Obama. Even after Obama became President of the United States, Smiley has continued to bash the leader of the free world and his popularity has nosedived.
“Dancing with the Stars” returns on ABC on Monday, Sept. 19.
