The “Empress of Soul” Gladys Knight was a guest co-host on the CBS’s “The Talk” yesterday and had some choice words for Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris Jackson.
The 68-year-old music icon, who acknowledged she knows the family very well and recently spent some time with Katherine Jackson, believes that regardless of what is going on; 14-year-old Paris should not be disclosing family business on social media.
“She shouldn’t be putting their business [out there],” Knight told the other co-hosts, Julie Chen, Sheryl Underwood, Aisha Tyler and Sara Gilbert.
The ladies also discussed the rumors started by TMZ that there was a physical altercation between Paris and her aunt, pop superstar Janet Jackson.
The unconfirmed report claims Janet, 46, called her niece a “spoiled bitch” before allegedly slapping her. Supposedly, Paris retaliated by calling Janet “a bitch” too and smacked her back.
The idea that the teenage heir to the Jackson estate could be so disrespectful, if the story is true, was unfathomable to Knight.
“Paris is 14 — how old is Janet? Who’s the one to try to direct the other one?” she asked.
Knight continued: “If she called me that, she would have no teeth. That’s the way we were brought up! You respect your elders!”
Knight, who competed on the last season of “Dancing with the Stars,” actually discovered The Jackson Five at an amateur contest and is responsible for Motown owner Berry Gordy becoming interested in the group. It has been misreported for years that Diana Ross – who Jackson left custody of his children to in his will if his mom, Katherine, was unable to raise them – had discovered The Jackson Five.
