Madea Meets Sophia: Tyler Perry & Oprah Winfrey Spoof Iconic Characters In OWN Promo

They say friends shouldn’t work together, but that’s not stopping Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry.

As previously reported by, the two close friends have joined forces to create programming for Winfrey’s OWN Network.

OWN has now announced a premiere date for the launch of Perry’s new series for the network – a drama “The Haves and the Have Nots” and a sitcom “Love Thy Neighbor.”

The cable channel is calling the launch “event programming” and has a night filled with specials ahead of the May 28 launch of Perry’s shows.

Winfrey is preparing a special episode of her interview series “Next Chapter” at 9 pm on Sunday, May 26, where she will interview Perry at his home.

Her one-hour sit-down will be followed by “Tyler Perry Comes to OWN: Behind the Scenes” – a special that will look at the making of “The Haves and Have Nots” and “Love Thy Neighbor” in Atlanta at 10 pm and 10:30 pm, respectively.

“We are delighted to celebrate Tyler coming to OWN with these new specials as we ramp up to the debut of our first scripted series,” OWN President Sheri Salata said in a statement. “Tyler’s fans, like Oprah’s fans, are incredibly connected and passionate. We can’t wait for them to see these shows.”

Added OWN President Erik Logan: “We are energized by our growing slate of original programming coming to OWN. With 12 returning series and 13 new shows on the way, including the launch of Tyler Perry’s shows in May, we’re positioned for a strong season.”

As previously reported by, OWN also announced that it had acquired the first two seasons of Perry’s sitcom “For Better or Worse,” which originally aired on TBS. A new season of the dramedy will debut new episodes in fall 2013 on OWN.
