Former Spice Girl member Melanie “Mel B” Brown has been tapped to be the new judge on NBC’s “America Got Talent.”
The 37-year-old entertainer will replace Sharon Osbourne, who left the show last August after claiming NBC fired her son Jack Osbourne from its competition series “Stars Earn Stripes” after he revealed his multiple sclerosis diagnosis. NBC denies her claim.
Joining “America’s Got Talent” isn’t Mel B’s first hosting gig.
The singer, who was finalist on the fifth season of “Dancing with the Stars,” co-hosted the Australian version of “Dancing With the Stars” and worked as a correspondent for the new magazine series “Access Hollywood.”
Mel B also judged the Australian version of “The X Factor” and starred in her own reality show, “Mel B: It’s a Scary World,” on Style Network in 2010.The singer, once known as Scary Spice, joins returning judges Howard Stern and Howie Mandel on “America’s Got Talent.” The competition series is hosted by Nick Cannon.
“America’s Got Talent” audition rounds begin in a few weeks. The eighth season of the show premieres on May 28.
