Oscar-winning actress Mo’Nique is readying a return to television with a talk show pilot for ABC/Disney.
The 45-year-old comedienne currently had a daytime talk show being developed by Vicki Dummer, ABC’s Executive Vice President Current Series and Specials.
A source at the the network tells AlwaysAList.com that even if Mo’Nique’s syndicated talk show is given the green light, it would not run on ABC stations. Instead the show could possibly air on Fox or Tribune affiliates.
The Baltimore-bred star of “Precious” previously hosted a nighttime talk show for BET called “The Mo’Nique Show.” After two seasons, the show was canceled amid declining ratings and creative differences behind the scenes.
Mo’Nique, who recently lost more than 85 pounds, has not starred in a movie or television project since her BET show was canceled.
The “Original Queen of Comedy” received great backlash in Hollywood for apparently being demanding and exhibiting ungrateful behavior during the award show season leading up to the 2009 Academy Awards. Industry insiders speculate that is why despite winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2009, Mo’Nique has yet to appear in another film.
She and her husband/manager, Sidney host an online U-Stream show that can be watched on her official website.
