Fox is launching a new daytime talk show called “The Real” starring comedienne Loni Love, actress Tamera Mowry, singer/reality star Tamar Braxton, singer/actress Adrienne Bailon and TV talent Jeannie Mai.
The ensemble talk show produced by Telepictures will get a summer trial run beginning on July 15. The exact markets and the length of the test run have not been announced.
Attempting to capitalize on the diversity market regularly overlooked by Hollywood, “The Real” aims to reach a younger and broader audience than shows like “The View” and “The Talk.” Each cast member on the entirely ethnic panel is under the age of 40.
Timing of “The Real” is great for the TV landscape as “The View” is in the midst of a cast overhaul. Returning co-host Sherri Shepherd has expressed her desire to see a Latina star join the show and even suggested Bailon for “The View.”
“The Talk” has also been growing, shrinking the viewing audience between it and “The View” to less than a half-million people.
Love, a co-host on the nationally syndicated radio show Cafe Mocha, is a regular on E! Entertainment’s “Chelsea Lately” and on networks like CNN and TruTV.
Former “Sister, Sister” star Mowry stars in a reality series titled “Tia & Tamera” on Style Network with her sister Tia Mowry.
In addition to appearing on two reality shows on WE TV, “Braxton Family Values” and “Tamar & Vince,” Braxton released a hit single “Love & War” early this year and just unveiled a new single “The One.” The singer will have her first child later this year and recently signed a recording contract with Epic Records.
Bailon is a former star of Disney’s “The Cheetah Girls” and a member of the girl group 3LW. She’s become a popular socialite and a fixture on the gossip blogs.
Mai currently hosts “How Do I Look?” on Style Network and makes frequent appearances during fashion segments on news magazine series and talk shows.
