Amid rumors online of a cast shakeup for TV One’s breakout hit reality series, “R&B Divas,” all five original cast members Faith Evans, Nicci Gilbert-Daniels, Monifah Carter, Syleena Johnson and Keke Wyatt are currently in Los Angeles filming scenes for season two.
The ladies of “R&B Divas” will collectively appear at actress Sheryl Lee Ralph’s World AIDS Day benefit, the 22nd Annual Divas Simply Singing.
At the musical extravaganza that will take place at L.A. Live’s Club Nokia, “R&B Divas” cast members Evans and Johnson as are slated to perform their respective singles, with the remaining women singing cover songs.
Sources close to the event reveal that the scenes being shot during Ralph’s event are likely going to be in the first episode of “R&B Divas” second season, which is projected to premiere in early 2013.
The internet was abuzz earlier in the week that Evans and Gilbert—who are also credited as co-executive producers on the series—were being replaced on the show by R&B singers Angie Stone and Sunshine Anderson. Neither Stone nor Anderson are in Los Angeles for the “Divas” benefit.
Gilbert, formerly of Michael Jackson’s the R&B trio Brownstone, in particular has faced tremendous scrutiny since appearing on the show and rumors of her termination have followed her since a RadarOnline.com story in August described her as a “terror to work with on the show” after the third episode aired. Gilbert denied that there was any merit to the gossip story.
No one has commented on any of the rumors—TV One, both production companies Think Factory and Ten 2 One Entertainment, the original cast members and the rumored replacements have all been mum on the speculation.
The success of “R&B Divas” first season had TV One quickly option a second season of the show. Producers of the series are also gearing up for a second installment of the franchise based in Los Angeles and casting is currently underway for that spin-off.
