Actress Tichina Arnold supports marriage equality.
The 43-year-old star of TV Land’s “Happily Divorced” told Uptown magazine that she’s learned that there’s more to being married than just being in love with your mate.
“Marriage equality is not just about love. It’s about property, belongings, what you built together, what you share together and the things people don’t realize that are caught in the balance of two people not being able to have this union. The institution of marriage was built for the purposes of property, not love,” she told Karu F. Daniels for the lifestyle glossy.
Arnold, a newlywed herself, married her second husband in August 2012. The former star of “Martin” and “Everybody Hates Chris” shared that her new husband shares her with her “gay husbands.” The New York-bred talent has even developed an interesting nickname for her “gay husbands.”
“[They] are called ‘gusbands,'” she explained. “I told my real husband, ‘Listen honey, you’re going to be happy to have him around because he’s going to do all the things that you don’t want to do.’ Now, he introduces him to his friends as my ‘gusband.’ Every woman needs one.”
In addition to starring opposite Fran Drescher on “Happily Divorced,” Arnold recently guest-starred on an episode of BET’s “Let’s Stay Together.”
