TV journalist T.J. Holmes has joined the team at ABC News.
The former CNN anchor and BET host made his official debut with ABC on “Good Morning America” on Friday, Sept. 26 doing a voiceover news package about an actress hiding on her roof from a stalker.
“GMA” anchor Robin Roberts introduced him as “ABC’s T.J. Holmes” and while his image was not featured in the news piece, his voice narrated the story.
Holmes also hosted the Insomniac Theater segment with correspondent Reena Ninan on Sept. 26, where they reviewed two new movies opening at the box office.
On Saturday, Sept. 27, the 37-year-old news man was officially welcomed to ABC by the weekend “Good Morning America” team.
A rep for ABC News confirmed to Richard Prince‘s Journal-isms column that Holmes had temporarily joined the network.
“TJ is filling in on the overnight and will likely do reports for GMA when stories break overnight,” ABC News spokesman Jeffrey W. Schneider said via email.
In 2011, the West Memphis, Ark.-bred talent left CNN after five years of anchoring their weekend morning show.
Holmes had a short-lived stint at BET from 2012 until 2013, where he hosted the highly-anticipated but ratings-challenged “Don’t Sleep.” The late night talker was canceled after two short months.
The twice-married father of three, who once dated TLC singer Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, anchored George Zimmerman’s trial coverage for CNN’s sister network HLN in 2013.
Earlier this year, Holmes anchored a half-dozen episodes of “MSNBC Live” and “Weekends with Alex Witt” for MSNBC. He also provided contributing work to the NBC’s “Weekend Today” and guest co-hosted ABC’s “The View” twice.
