Is Tyra Banks gearing up to be the new host of E! Entertainment’s “Fashion Police?”
The former supermodel is being named a top contender according to The Wrap. The industry trade site reports that E! conducted focus groups on comedienne Kathy Griffin and determined viewers were not interested in seeing her replace the late Joan Rivers, who died on Sept. 4.
“They did some focus group testing on Kathy Griffin. The problem viewers mentioned is she’d always be compared to Joan, but never actually as good as her. She was tested and tested poorly because she was too close to Joan’s comedic sensibility,” the network executive told The Wrap.
Now, the network insider is claiming that “America’s Next Top Model” host and producer is the frontrunner for Rivers’ chair.
A rep for the 40-year-old model turned TV mogul, who has a new ensemble talk show called “The F.A.B.” premiering on ABC, would not comment on the matter.
The network rep at E! would only say that the search for a new host to join Kelly Osbourne, Giuliana Rancic and George Kotsiopoulos on the show produced by Rivers’ daughter Melissa Rivers “is still a wide open field.”
NeNe Leakes, RuPaul, Kimora Lee Simmons are among the other names that have been mentioned as new hosts for the show.
AlwaysAList.com thinks E! should look at former editor-at-large for Vogue magazine André Leon Talley as well. Talley, the current Editor-at-large for Numéro Russia and judge on “America’s Next Top Model,” is known for his witty sound bites and catchy fashion phrases.
