Wendy Williams will now moderate a new fashion series called “Wendy’s Style Squad” that will air on BET.
In what could be called an extension of a segment she usually does on her daytime talk show on Mondays following most major award shows, the new style panel series will feature three fashion experts offering fashion feedback on the stars.
Joining Williams on “Wendy’s Style Squad” are fashion personalities Lloyd Boston, Bevy Smith and Robert Verdi.
Similar to E!’s “Fashion Police,” the new series will analyze red carpet fashion of the stars. “Wendy’s Style Squad” will focus on award shows like the BET Awards, Primetime Emmy Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, and the Billboard Music Awards.
The show will debut on Feb. 16 at 9pm, where Williams and her cohorts will take on the Grammy Awards.
Absent from the list of award shows for “Wendy’s Style Squad” are the upcoming Academy Awards. A rep for BET said in a statement that “the purpose of the specials is to celebrate our viewers. Our viewers are African American and unfortunately the Oscars is not reflective of our community.”
News of “Wendy’s Style Squad” comes as E! continues to find its footing with their revamped “Fashion Police” series. Once anchored by the late Joan Rivers, the show is now moderated by her daughter Melissa Rivers and features co-hosts Giuliana Rancic, stylist Brad Goreski and comedienne Margaret Cho. Reality TV star NeNe Leakes regularly guest hosts on the show.
For Smith, who also hosts a SiriusXM radio series “Bevelations” on Andy Cohen’s Radio Andy Channel 102, joining “Wendy’s Style Squad” comes nearly seven months after the cancellation of her Bravo style series “Fashion Queens.”
“Wendy’s Style Squad” offers the talk show host another reason to celebrate. It was announced earlier this year that her daytime talk show, currently in its seventh season, has been renewed until 2020.
Williams is no stranger to BET, as “The Wendy Williams Show” repeats on the Viacom-owned network daily at midnight.
