Good news for the BET sitcom “Let’s Stay Together.”  The Jacque Edmonds Cofer/Queen Latifah-produced show will return on BET thanks to a new tax initiative for film and television productions in Los Angeles. reported on April 29, 2014 that the series had been cancelled by BET after 51 episodes.

The 30-minute sitcom stars Bert Belasco, Nadine Ellis, Joyful Drake, RonReaco Lee, Erica Hubbard and Kyla Pratt and was previously taped in Atlanta. For many years, Atlanta was the most economic city for film and TV productions to shoot in because of the state’s tax incentive.

In late May, the California Film and Television Job Retention and Promotion Act of 2014 was approved by the state assembly by a unanimous vote of 71-0.  The legislation is an effort to expand and extend incentives to keep film and television production in California.

In early July, it was revealed that 26 productions qualified for the incentive and “Let’s Stay Together” was one of them. Additionally, BET series “Being Mary Jane” also qualified and will move to Los Angeles.

On an estimated spend budget of $6.3 million, “Let’s Stay Together” will receive a $1.5 million credit allocation.

“Let’s Stay Together” star Lee, who plays Jamal on the sitcom, booked a new gig starring on the basketball comedy “Survivors Remorse” on the Starz Network. No wonder on if that will affect his ability to return to the series.

A BET source said there may be a conflict with Pratt returning to the show as well.
