Jump In Da Line: Junkanoo CD Showcases Masters Of Bahamian Music

Music is a focal point of the Junkanoo celebration in The Bahamas. In anticipation of the first ever Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival this Spring, The Bahamas kicked off a nationwide Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival Song Competition.

The Bahamas National Festival Commission (BNFC) invited musicians from all over the Bahamas to enter the competition.  Both established artists and upstarts submitted more than 170 songs for consideration, before being worked down to the final 25 contenders.

“We are excited to have a quality compilation CD that can promote the songs and artists on a global scale. Our goal is to promote Bahamian music, to get more Bahamian music on the world stage and to encourage Bahamians to write more Bahamian music,” said Ed Fields, Co-Chairman of the Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival Events Committee.

During the Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival, the top 10 artists from the compilation as determined by the independent judging process will perform on the Music Masters stage during the festival.  Additionally, a team of judges will decide who is crowned 2015 Master of the Bahamian Sound.

“Music is the spirit that drives the cultural experience of the Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival.  Therefore, it was essential to find talented Bahamians who were able to capture the vibrant energy and legacy of our traditional music.  This album will set a precedent for many to come and will allow our culture and talent to be exposed globally,” said Roscoe Dames CEO of Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival.

A Grammy-winning recording artist to be announced at a later time will also participate in the celebration as well.
