The daughter of pioneering gospel singers and an associate of Rev. James Cleveland, the Chicago-bred Howard gained notoriety as a vocal powerhouse during the mid-1980s with a string of hits including “Love Under New Management,” “Baby Be Mine,” “Come Share My Love,” “Ain’t Nothing in the World” and “Ain’t Nobody Like You.” She also hit with a cover of Aretha Franklin’s “Until You Come Back to Me.”

Miki appeared in the Spike Lee movie, “Malcolm X,” portraying jazz legend Billie Holiday and in 1993 recorded an album called “Miki Sings Billie.”

The 55-year-old released her second live release, “Miki Howard: Live in Concert,” in 2015.

“Unsung: The Miki Howard Story” is directed by Christine Swanson, who worked closely with Atlanta-based writer/producer Rhonda Baraka, who penned the screenplay.
