This weekend, the 24th Annual Trumpet Awards took place at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Georgia.

The event conceived by activist Xernona Clayton recognized individuals making history in the world of entertainment, humanitarian work, the political spectrum and philanthropy.

This year’s honorees included Grammy winner Ne-Yo (“The Visionary Award”); Film and TV producer Will Packer (“Entertainment Award”); Comedy icon George Wallace (“Legend Award”); Former Secretary of Labor, Alexis M. Herman (“The Phoenix Award”); international humanitarian HRH Princess Basmah Bint Saud (“Global Humanitarian Award”); Chancellor of Wayne Community College District in Michigan, Dr. Curtis Ivery (“Education Award”); and Vice President of Global Connected Customer Experience for General Motors, Alicia Boler-Davis (“Corporate Executive of the Year Award”). For this year’s “Political Leadership Award,” the Trumpet Awards did a special tribute to the African American Women in the United States Congress.

Hosted by “Uncle Buck” star Nia Long and “Think Like A Man Too” star Terrence J, the ceremony also featured a special tribute performance to hip-hop pioneers Salt-N-Pepa by veteran rappers MC Lyte, Yo-Yo and Monie Love.

The 24th Annual Trumpet Awards will premiere on Bounce TV on Friday, Jan. 29 at 9:00pm ET and air in syndication in over 75 markets nationwide.

“Scandal” star Kerry Washington spotted at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah where she was promoting her “Confirmation,” the HBO film that has her starring as attorney and professor, Anita Hill. In 1991, Hill accused U.S. Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas, her supervisor at the U.S. Department of Education and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, of sexual harassment.
