Big Return: Ebony Steele Back On Radio & Lands New TV Show

Ebony Steele is back on the radio as the co-host of the “The Doug Banks Show.” Steele’s full-time return to radio was first reported by Radio Facts.

It was originally believed that the late Doug Banks’ last co-host Dee Dee Renee would be staying on to co-host with the show’s new host, comedian Rudy Rush. Instead, American Urban Radio Networks (AURN) has signed Steele for the job. previously reported that Rush would fulfill the slot once occupied by Banks, who died in April after a long battle with Diabetes. The former “Showtime at the Apollo” host worked with Banks in the past on both his morning and afternoon shows.

For seven years, Steele worked as the co-host of “The Rickey Smiley Morning Show.” She also appeared on Fox’s new magazine series “Dish Nation” as part of the morning show for the show’s summer test run and then nearly two seasons after the show was officially picked up.

In 2015, speculation of Reach Media/Radio One developing a new afternoon show that paired Steele with radio veteran Skip Cheatham and comedian Gary Owen was buzzed-about among radio insiders. The trio filled in on “The D.L. Hughley Show” while comedian D.L. Hughley was vacationing last fall and that was supposedly a trial run of the new show.

Regardless, Steele is now part of the revamped “The Doug Banks Show,” which is expected to change its name at some point in the future. AURN has also brought on veteran radio programmer Mike Love to oversee the show.

In addition to being back on radio, the Birmingham, Ala. native is co-hosting a new show called “Coffee with America” for the ION network.

Steele will co-host alongside Sasha Rionda (CNN en Español) and the Atlanta-based news, lifestyle and entertainment series will also be syndicated to other stations.[divider]
