Drake & Chris Brown: Sued For $16 Million Over Bar Brawl
Looks like Drake and Chris Brown are getting ready for a collaboration – but not the musical kind.
The two recording artists are now co-defendants in a $16 million lawsuit filed as a result of the melee caused during a brawl in a Manhattan nightclub.
Entertainment Enterprises Ltd., which has a financial stake in the joint Manhattan clubs Greenhouse and WiP where the fracas took place back in June, filed papers in Manhattan Supreme Court claiming the two stars “started mixing up” and then “ordered their crews to follow suit.”
In the court documents, Entertainment Enterprises says both Drake and Brown “shared a grudge against the other arising out of their romantic relationships with the same woman,” which is pop star Rihanna, and when they “crossed paths,” they “began to fight violently with each other.”
Additionally, the lawsuit says that while security for the clubs made sure neither of the entertainer’s entourages were armed, “each arrived with his own small army of bodyguards, ‘security’ personnel, employees, friends and other members of their entourage, consisting of at least 15 heavily built men trained and/or experienced in hand-to-hand and weapons combat.”
Though statements from both stars’ reps said that Brown and Drake never actually fought, the legal papers insist “each ordered his security personnel, bodyguards, friends and entourage to join the fight, which erupted into a violent brawl on a massive scale.”
It goes on to say that “on defendant Brown and defendant Drake’s instructions,” their camps made “deadly weapons out of whatever materials they could find, including glasses, alcohol bottles and furniture” and were “throwing highball glasses laden with alcohol, shattering the handles of bottles of spirits to use as makeshift knives, and even throwing full bottles at each other.”
The suit claims their actions circumvented “the nightclubs’ extensive efforts to ensure a safe environment” and “overran the nightclub’s extensive security measures and the brawl overtook the entire space.”Other partygoers were “terrorized” and “ran for cover,” and attempted to protect themselves by “using banquettes and tables as improvised shields.”
NBA star Tony Parker was injured during the brawl. He has filed a $20 million lawsuit against Greenhouse and WiP.
A reps for Brown said: “It’s a frivolous lawsuit.” No comment from Drake’s team yet.
