The Fab Five: Tom Joyner Taps 5 Comics To Replace J. Anthony Brown
The Tom Joyner Morning Show will use five rotating comedians to replace the departing J. Anthony Brown.
AlwaysAList.com exclusively reported that Brown departed the nationally syndicated radio show after 20 years on Nov. 28.
Following his departure, the veteran radio personality Tom Joyner has assembled five top Hollywood comics that will host respective days on the 23-year-old morning show, according to the AJC’s Rodney Ho who first reported to story.
Joining Joyner and long-running sidekick Sybil Wilkes on the Tom Joyner Morning Show in 2017 are Arsenio Hall, Kym Whitley, Bill Bellamy and Lavell Crawford. Comedienne Sherri Shepherd, who currently co-hosts the show each Thursday, will also return to the show.
The Tom Joyner Morning Show is based in Dallas, Texas. It is expected that the new comic co-hosts will host from the studio in Los Angeles that Brown once used.
The Tom Joyner Morning Show went into national syndication in 1994 and at its peak, aired in upwards of 120 markets. The show currently is heard in approximately 100 markets and reaches an estimated eight million listeners daily. The show is the number two most successful syndicated urban radio show behind The Steve Harvey Morning Show.
Despite reports in the Daily Mail last year that the Tom Joyner Morning Show was slated to end in 2017 following the departure of President Barack Obama; Joyner’s contract has now been extended through 2018.
Full Disclosure: From 2006 until 2011, AlwaysAList.com’s Jawn Murray was an on-air talent on the Tom Joyner Morning Show.
