Solar Eclipse 2017 was one of the few times since the 2016 Presidential Election that people from all walks of life came together and bonded over something. It was such a big deal, Nissan struggled to find me a flight into Nashville where they are based and where the best view of the Solar Eclipse was expected.
So we planned a road trip! I flew into Atlanta and Nissan dropped off a Nissan Rogue Sport and after spending a few days at the Grand Hyatt Buckhead, I hit the road and made the picturesque three and a half hour drive to Nashville for the first time.
Nissan had us at the brand new Kimpton Aertson Hotel. It was literally so new that it had only had guests staying there 10 days prior to our arrival. But thank God for this property opening, as every other hotel in Nashville was sold out and this was the only way Nissan could host their Catch Midnight presentation.
Nissan’s experience kicked off with an evening enjoying nature and science under the stars at Owl’s Hill Nature Preserve. (Yes, there was a real life owl on hand!) In addition to dinner under a log canopy, a nature hike and viewing the stars through telescopes; the star attraction was Nissan’s rollout of their new Midnight Editions of their core vehicles.
The specialty trim edition of the Nissans feature either black, gray, or white paint with gloss black wheels and black-out exterior features such as badges and grilles.
Midnight Edition models have already been released for the Sentra, Altima, and Maxima sedans as well as for the Rogue, Murano, and Pathfinder SUVs. Nissan has already sold more than 32,000 Midnight Edition vehicles so far this year.
But the big news was the introduction of Midnight Editions for the 2018 Frontier, Titan and Titan XD. Those offerings will be available to consumers in late fall 2017 and truck enthusiasts were elated when the new populated on social media. In the truck world, apparently the ability to black-out your vehicle can be the determining factor in a final purchase.
“Following the tremendous response to the original Maxima SR Midnight Edition, we’ve created a complete portfolio of the popular blacked-out Midnight Edition look among our core Nissan sedan, crossover and SUV models,” said Billy Hayes, Division Vice President, Nissan Sales, Nissan North America, Inc. “We expect the strong customer appeal to continue with the expansion of the Midnight Edition package to our Titan, Titan XD, and Frontier pickups.”
That Monday, August 21, Nissan hosted a private rooftop viewing party for the Solar Eclipse at Acme Feed & Seed in Downtown Nashville. Guests donned custom-Nissan solar glasses and watched in awe as the rare scientific occurrence unfolded.
Tying in their Midnight Edition rollout with the special occasion when day becomes night was a match made in heaven for Nissan.
Where To Stay In Atlanta: Before my road trip to Nashville began, I spent two days at the lovely Grand Hyatt Atlanta in Buckhead. A four-star property ideally located in the trendy high-end Atlanta neighborhood, the Grand Hyatt embodied the grandness one would expect for this signature Hyatt brand.
A sleek, elegantly decorated reception area welcomed upon entering the property and the staff all displayed warm southern hospitality. Knowledgeable bell staff assisted with the luggage and made subtle conversation while showcasing some of the property’s offerings and neighborhood attractions. The spacious corner junior suite I stayed in boasted a king size bed, couch and refrigerator; as well as a large bathroom with marble floors.
When you’re not enjoying the large flat-screen TV, the picturesque views of Buckhead from the room were divine. On one side I could see the hotel’s pool below. The Grand Hyatt also has Japanese Zen garden, which features a waterfall, pond and local plants selected to evoke peace and tranquility.
After two days there, I was relaxed and ready to hit the road. The Grand Hyatt Buckhead took great care of me and the Nissan Rogue Sport and I’d strongly recommend you chose it as an option during your next visit to Atlanta.
So I was so blown away by the view when I checked into the @GrandHyattAtlanta that kept calling it the Park Hyatt in this video! They took great care of me & my @NissanUSA Rogue Sport as we prepared for our road trip to Nashville for the Solar Eclipse.
