Runway Remembrance: “Project Runway” Stars Celebrate Mychael Knight During New York Fashion Week
On September 9, 2017, designers Mychael Knight and Korto Momolu partnered for their MKKM fashion show during New York Fashion Week (NYFW). What no one knew then, that fashion show would be the last one that Knight would ever present.
About a month and a half later on October 17, 2017, Knight died at age of 39.
His passing shocked the fashion and entertainment community, as Knight was a “Project Runway” fan-favorite who had gone on to host shows for BET and who had worked with celebrities like Sherri Shepherd, Michelle Williams and Phaedra Parks.
His good friend and fellow “Project Runway” colleague Momolu vowed to keep his legacy alive and began planning a follow-up MKKM show.
On September 9, 2018, one year to the date of Knight’s final show with her, Momolu hosted the MKKM Tribute Show during NYFW.
This time, Momolu had fellow “Project Runway” stars Peach Carr, Christopher Palu, Kimberly Goldson and Edmond Newton show collections as well.
Held at the Stewart Hotel in Midtown Manhattan, the event was headlined by an encore presentation of Knight’s final collection, his Mercy & Grace Spring/Summer 2018 line.
An emotional night, where New York’s fashion elite, Knight’s family and his friends, including yours truly, were on hand to celebrate a creative soul gone too soon. You can view parts of the moving show below.
