A-List Ride: The 2018 Nissan Armada Platinum Reserve Deserves Your Attention

I kicked off my test week in the 2018 Nissan Armada Platinum Reserve by putting it on the road for a short trip to Baltimore for a photo shoot in Downtown Baltimore’s Graffiti Alley. What better way to get acquainted with the vehicle than take a 44 mile trek cutting through Washington, DC on a sunny afternoon, and then hopping on the two-lane Baltimore-Washington Parkway that takes me straight into the heart of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.

This big, luxurious and very capable SUV commands the road on its drive. Whether it was dealing with the intermittent traffic on 295 through Southeast Washington, DC over by R.F.K. Stadium or showcasing its speed and handling on the steady, but sometimes curvy, two lane BWI Parkway; I felt safe, secure and completely control at all times in this sturdy SUV.

The Nissan Intelligent features always add to the safety experience when driving. The Armada offers lane intervention, blind spot warning and a 360 camera view rearview camera; among others, to deal with your essential safety needs.

On the return drive from Baltimore, I was able to push the speed of the vehicle a little more on the open highway. Because of stopped traffic on BWI Parkway, I used Waze to divert through Laurel, Maryland and got on Interstate 95 headed south. The Armada packed a punch for sure, with smooth suspension and a quiet cabin quiet, well, except for when I had the music from my iPhone blasting through the car’s audio system.

This is a bonafide SUV. Not a truck that sits on a car bed. So it feels like a truck, unlike Nissan’s Pathfinder which is on a car bed now.

The Armada has an extremely spacious second row and a two-person third row as well. Both rows can be converted into additional trunk space for more cargo. Power folding 60-40 third row and the second row offer so much space when dropped that you could basically camp out in this vehicle on a road trip or during some outdoor adventure.

Accessing the third row is easier than expected if you want to sit back there. It also has a third row power recline feature. There are also televisions and headsets in the back for watching TV, DVDs or video games for those parents with kids or backseat passengers just needing road trip entertainment.

As a large SUV, you’ll only get 14 city miles per gallon and 19 highway miles per gallon in the Armada.

But the Armada Platinum Reserve I tested takes the already-loaded Armada Platinum and super-sizes its offerings. You get so much for a surprisingly reasonable price with the 2018 Nissan Armada Platinum Reserve. This large-size Nissan SUV should make its more-luxurious cousin, the Infiniti QX80 very nervous.

Spin Control: Pricing starts at $62,985 for two-wheel-drive versions and $65,885 for four-wheel-drive versions of the 2018 Nissan Armada Platinum Reserve. This investment vehicle is actually a real bargain when you realize that it has high-end offerings at a more reasonable price.
