A-List Ride: The 2018 Ford Fusion Energi Platinum Offers Eco-Luxury

Sometimes I try to plan outings or excursions to maximize my test drive experience. I often try to find ways to really get familiar with the car that can help me truly share an authentic reflection of what I think about the vehicles. The week that I had the 2018 Ford Fusion Energi Platinum, I didn’t have to plan anything — the story happened on its own.

So I flew in from Greensboro, NC to Washington, DC’s Dulles International Airport where the 2018 Ford Fusion Energi Platinum was left for me and I was in pain. I had been battling a lower back issue for a few weeks and planned to head straight to the urgent care the moment I got back. I drove myself to Fairfax, VA, about 20 miles from the airport to get my back issue checked out. They ran tests, gave me some pain meds and told me, ‘you may as well go ahead and enjoy your weekend, as we won’t have results until early next week.’

The pain meds kicked in immediately and thankfully, they were not the drowsy kind. So I decided to keep my plans of driving up to Joppa, Maryland to go see my friend, WWE Hall of Fame wrestling star Mark Henry do an appearance there at Maryland Championship Wrestling (MCW). It was a 66 mile drive from my house to there, which would give me ample time to get to know the 2018 Ford Fusion Energi Platinum.

Even before the doctor’s visit and the pain meds, this sedan was extremely comfortable. The seats were so plush and relaxing, a welcomed reprieve to the seats on the United shuttle flight I took home from Greensboro.

It was a 90-degree day so I used the cooling option on the seats, in addition to running the air conditioner. And I set up the bluetooth in the car to my phone so that I could talk in the vehicle in the safest way.

I touchscreen infotainment system was easy to use. I quickly programmed my favorite terrestrial and SiriusXM Channels; and connected my iPod via the USB port to play some songs from it as well.

Despite this car being electric with hybrid features, the drive was quiet and there was no noticeable transition noises. The EV Range on the car is 21 miles – so if you have a commute that’s 20 miles an under you never have to use gas. And a full tank will give you over 500 miles on gas. (You can combine electric and gas miles and the miles range varies, but overall, gas mileage is exceptional regardless!)

Not only was this sedan comfortable to me, but Henry, a 399-pound wrestling star rode with me after the show. He was pleasantly surprised by how spacious the front cabin was and how plush the seats were.

The exterior car, as seen in the video below, has a sleek design and modern shape. I love the front grill on the vehicle.

This vehicle boasts plenty of safety features, has a uniquely designed gear shift and offers lots of additional amenities. Among my favorite features are the back arm rest with two cup holders that fold into the seat; and the small skinny pass way to the trunk that would allow you carry golf clubs, instruments or maybe wood.

Spin Control: The 2018 Ford Fusion Energi Platinum starts at $41,305 and can go upwards of $43,100 depending on what you add to the vehicle. This car is for consumers who are ecologically-minded, but don’t want to slack on luxury for it.
