Back To Basics: 2018 Toyota Corolla XLE Is A Brand Staple

Have you ever watched a sporting event or an award show and heard the announcer say, ‘This car is the official car of’ whatever thing you happen to be watching.

Well, when I was in Miami earlier this year on business and had to take a few Lyft and Uber rides, I noticed that so many of the locals drive Toyota Corolla’s. It’s almost like an announcement should have went off at the airport when I landed, ‘The Toyota Corolla is the official car of Miami Beach.’

I spent some time test driving the 2018 Toyota Corolla XLE. And since the people in Miami loved to drive it around the city, I decided to follow their lead spent most of my time testing this vehicle in downtown Washington, DC.

The Toyota Corolla a classic sedan in the Toyota family and one that has become a successful staple for the brand. It has a low price tag, a reputation of reliability and as a small car, its gas mileage is great. You’ll get 28 miles per gallon in the city and a strong 36 miles per gallon on the highway.

This XLE trim of the Toyota Corolla builds upon its legacy with some additional bells and whistles, continuing to present this model as a brand mainstay for those seeking a car that practical, small in size and not hurting their pockets with gas. But make no mistakes about it; despite it covering all of the basics, the Toyota Corolla is just that – basic! And for the car owner who believes that less is sometimes more, it’s just what you may need in a vehicle.

Despite being small, it has a surprisingly roomy cabin and more trunk space that you would anticipate.

Among the standout features are the power moon roof, auto daytime running lights, heated-foldable mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, visor extenders and the smart key access. And because sometimes I pay attention to detail, I love the chrome accents on this trim.

Toyota’s are known for having great engines and even their cars with lesser power (this one has Horsepower: 132 hp/Torque: 128 lb-ft) pack more punch that its competitors. But the drive is what you would expect from a car like this one, and its safety features make you feel secure despite being in a small sedan.

Spin Control: You can get a 2018 Toyota Corolla XLE anywhere from $20,273 to $23,832 (the higher end is what my model is going from. An affordable investment for a standard sedan that will meet you practical needs.
