Roll Call: The 2019 Mazda CX-5 Signature Signs On For Greatness

Mazda manufactures cars with intention. And apparently that intention is to make sure you’re getting a quality vehicle – no matter the design, no matter the size, no matter the price.

That’s how I felt when spent time reviewing their 2019 Mazda CX-5 Signature. Even though this is their small crossover SUV, I never once felt as though they without the finer aspects of their designs.

The Signature trim of the Mazda CX-5 is their upper level offering. This version of the vehicle offers premium leather upholstery, wood trim accents, ambient cabin lighting, a surround-view camera, and front and rear parking sensors to its base model features.

But that’s not all, this vehicle now has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration as part of its technology offerings; and there are also newly available ventilated front seats for the first time.

I primarily drove this car in downtown Washington, DC and then ventured into the suburbs of Maryland. Whether on the highway or in the city, I loved the handling of this vehicle. The engine in the Signature trim is stronger than the base model—a new turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which aided in my appreciation.

But the sporty performance of this vehicle and its impeccable handling were very impressive to me. Whether twists and turns on the back streets of the suburbs or just being savvy city driver being assertive in traffic, the Mazda CX-5 has a penchant for handling that will satisfy all needs.

And this car is one quiet drive. Even during accelerated speeds on the highway, this car is so quiet you’ll forget the engine is on.

The interior cabin is thoughtfully designed with high-quality materials and car amenities that are ample and easy to use.

Favorite Feature: Quiet drive

Least Favorite Feature: Mazda’s Infotainment system can be restrictive for safety reasons when car is in motion, even with a passenger onboard

Spin Control: It’ll land you 22 city miles per gallon and 27 on the highway, but overall for a sticker price of $36,890 for the Signature trim I tested, this Mazda CX-5 is worth every penny.
