Mary Mary: Reality Show Promo Clips Spark Controversy

The second season of gospel duo Mary Mary’s self-titled WE TV reality series doesn’t premiere until Dec. 13, however two promotional clips for the forthcoming season have already been released.

Looks as though things will be a little racier on the sophomore season of “Mary Mary,” as the first clip features Erica and Tina Campbell’s sister/stylist Goo Goo Atkins and sister-in-law Joi Campbell auditioning male dancers for a baby shower. These definitely are not liturgical dancers from church, as one dancer drops his shorts well below the Bible belt region.

In a second promo clip, Mary Mary’s sassy manager Mitchell Solarek is confronted by Goo Goo’s boyfriend Justin Moore about Solarek’s contentious relationship with Mary Mary’s resident stylist. After an extremely awkward exchange, the two men appear to be moments away from having a physical altercation.

The two clips have created a stir—to say the least—about the new season of “Mary Mary,” with a lot of fans expressing concern via social media about a faith-based group known for God-filled messages presenting such controversial images to promote their show.

I guess fans will have to wait until Dec. 13 to see the full spectrum of what Mary Mary is offering on the new season of “Mary Mary.”

That move Justin pulled showed JUST how he is…smh. That was so unprofessional. How old is he…5?? Why would he continue to put his hands on Mitch? It was awkward. Men don’t handle things like that. It wasn’t his place. Mitch’s role is to handle the business of Mary Mary…not worry about their sisters … boyfriend ridiculous requests. That scene was dumb! Goo, run now!

Wow at the second clip! Justin was very out of line. If anyone should talk to Mitch about Goo, it should be Erica and Tina. This is a professional business, and no one has time to deal with silly boyfriends that want to be on TV and get their 15 minutes of fame.

It is obvious the actions in these scenes are for ratings since in both cases everyone knows the cameras are rolling…but why compromise? It is common sense that Mary/Mary realize that Christian followers are being exposed to more secularism than anything else? And worldly watchers are given more fuel to be driven away from the gospel. It’s a Tyler Perry all over again… but the Lord says, “Draw closer to Me and I will draw closer to you.” The ladies already know their show will increase in ratings by pleasing the world and their desires…but what about with God.

gerald: they are pleasing God. Throught their strong support of their families, through the care of their children. They didnt have strippers as their own parties, but Goo Goo is having it at HERS. Why are you faulting mary mary for GOO GOO’s choice?

Doesnt matter who had it Tina nor Erica should not have participated in it. I give Tina credit cause she didn’t let Goo Goo have that evevt at her house.

WOOOOOW.Seems were in 4 a treat this season but JUSTIN has really rubbed me the wrong way.Just last year you were introduced 2 this celebrity family and you are now acting SALTY with the manager of your so called girlfriends SISTERS, who are national recording artists.
Im starting to look at him with a side eye.Is he really there for GOO or is he taking advantage of this FAMILY’S PLATTFORM!!! we will see but i hope marymary put him back to his place.geez not even a fiancee nd you see how he bragged “future in law to the atkins”.celebrity benefits and status in his mind…..

Mary Mary has shown that they will do anything for the advancement of themselves & their brand. Ministry stopped being a focus for them a long time ago, it’s arguable if it ever really was in the first place. You’ve been given a special platform that very few have & what do you choose to do with it? Promote pole dancing, strippers, and a beer drink….we can see that stuff on Vh1. They are a disgrace. Could you imagine godly women like CeCe Winans, Shirley Caesar, or any of The Clark Sisters using television to dance around a pole or show auditions for strippers?? This is why Mary Mary is not respected, they’re popular but not respected. Lukewarm conformists.

As for Justin, it’s obvious that exchange was scripted.

On Mary’s relationship: As a Christian myself I know it how important it is to operate in the sprit. However because I am human being I also have to operate in the natural. I go to school and work everyday and I don’t have the “perfect” family (then again who does). There are going to be times where I am not going to be in a Christ-like atmosphere. This is case for Mary Mary. The only difference between you, myself and Mary Mary is that they are on camera and we are not. If a camera was put on some of situations I have came across you would question my salvation as well. All that we should have a say on is our individual relationships with Jesus and not the Mary’s relationship with Christ. So calm down with calling them lukewarm and questioning their walk. WE DON’T HAVE A SAY. If it bothers you then don’t watch the show when it premieres.

As far as the clips: Props to Tina for moving the party so her baby girls won’t have to see anything inappropriate. That’s what you call being a Momma.

Justin vs Mitch: That was messy. That is MM’s manager man!

I agree totally, it is so easy for us to sit back and judge others like we are perfect, it is soo easy to point the finger when the spotlight is not on you, but if the curtains were pulled back i wonder what it might show. I love that song that Deitrick Haddon sings, i am glad that God does not judge us like man.

The audition for male dancers was for a BRIDAL shower–for little sister Alana. NOT for Tina’s baby shower. She specifically said not at her house. For what reason? Watch the show to find out. Don’t vilify them because of that.
But the second clip? OH NO…just out of line.
Notice that neither has much to do with THEIR lives…more like the lives of their family, people who aren’t necessarily subject to the public scrutiny based on what THEY sing about.
Really though people….before you throw stones, check your house.
