Early Release: “Smallville” Actor Sam Jones Out Of Prison
Former “Smallville” star Sam Jones III was released from federal prison this weekend after serving nearly 10 months for conspiracy to sell more than 10,000 pills of Oxycodone.
Jones was sentenced to one year and one day back in June 2011 and turned himself in last December. He served his time in a low security prison in Lompoc, Calif.
The Boston-bred actor was released two months earlier than expected.
Jones caught a break in his case. The federal agents prosecuting his case wanted him to serve five years in prison, but his agreeing to plead guilty got him a lesser sentence.
The 33-year-old actor told authorities that he participated in the conspiracy to help a friend pay back a debt to the Mexican cartel, TMZ originally reported. The judge was convinced that Jones played a minor role in the illegal activity.
His involvement in the drug crime caused the actor to lose his job on the series “Blue Mountain State.”
In 2010, Jones and then girlfriend, Playboy Playmate Karissa Shannon struck a deal with Vivid Entertainment to release the couple’s sex tape. One year after the released of the X-rated DVD, “Karissa Shannon Superstar,” the couple broke up.
