His Own Channel: Tyler Perry Confirms He’s Launching TV Network reported on Oct. 1 that Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey were joining forces to create programming for her OWN Network.

News of the 43-year-old actor/writer/director/producer partnering with Winfrey to produce scripted series for OWN had many speculate that Perry had abandoned his plans to launch of television network of his own.

During Friday’s appearance on ABC’s “The View” to promote his new film “Alex Cross,” Perry revealed that part of the reason he is working with close friend Winfrey is to learn the television business.

“It’s really great because I get an opportunity to bring programming to the network, which is what she needs, and she gets an opportunity to show me what its like to run a network, which is what I need as I’m starting my own,” he enlightened.

News of Perry’s TV network pursuits first surfaced in August 2011, when an industry official briefed on the matter spoke to The New York Times. Initial reports claimed that the New Orleans-bred playwright turned Hollywood mogul would partner with Lionsgate, which distributes his films, to launch a network tentatively called Tyler TV.

It was previously reported that Perry’s channel would launch with repeats of his sitcoms “House of Payne,” “Meet the Browns” and “For Better or Worse,” in addition airing his numerous blockbuster films.

Perry himself didn’t elaborate further on his plans during his interview on “The View.”
