Queen Latifah: Daytime Talk Show Lands Network & Launch Date

Oscar nominee Queen Latifah’s second foray into daytime television is set to debut in the fall of 2013.

In a surprising move, “The Queen Latifah Show” has secured a home with CBS and has already locked in commitments from 16 CBS owned and operated stations, reports

What makes this deal unconventional is that unlike the daytime show “The Talk;” “The Queen Latifah Show” is not produced by CBS TV, but it is owned by Sony Pictures TV. It’s very rare for a network to do an exclusive deal for a syndicated talk show not produced by their own distribution company.

The 42-year-old entertainer’s new talk show will be very different from her first talk show baring the same name that ran from Sept. 1999 until Aug. 2001. While the original talk show had more of a “Ricki Lake Show” feel to it, the new “Queen Latifah Show” will feature celebrity guests, musical performances, comedy, pop culture and human interest stories.

The show is executive produced by Latifah and Flavor Unit’s Shakim Compere, along with Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.

The new version of “The Queen Latifah Show” was green-lit and acquired by Sony Pictures TV a year ago, and Sony’s deal with CBS was locked in almost one-year to the date of the show’s development.
