Avant: R&B Crooner Back Before Valentine’s Day

R&B mainstay Avant is gearing up for the release of his seventh CD, “Face the Music.”

“Face the Music” is led by the first single, “You & I,” a duet with “R&B Divas” star Keke Wyatt. Avant and Wyatt have a history of recording hit duets—in 2000 they remade Rene & Angela’s “”My First Love” and in 2001 released “Nothing in This World.”

The pair recorded “You & I” during an episode on season one of TV One’s “R&B Divas” and the song instantly shot up the radio charts. The single is currently no. 4 on the Urban Adult Contemporary radio chart and continues to rise.

Avant said the vintage soul feel of the first single is indicative of sound that “Face the Music” will embody.

“It’s a taste of new school and old school,” he explained. “You might hear a piece of, say, Stevie Wonder or Babyface, then I spin right back around and offer up some new age R&B. It’s a well-rounded album with something for everyone. At the end of the day, Face the Music is about who we are and what we live by; it’s about respecting that as well as the music.”

“Face the Music” was recorded in Chicago and Avant wrote or co-wrote all 12 tracks on the disc.

Despite having been in the entertainment industry more than a decade, Avant said he’s approaching this new CD just as though he was a new artist starting all over again.

“I got into the game knowing this is not a sprint but a marathon. And I didn’t get into it for the money. It’s still all about the chills … the music,” he closed.

The 34-year-old crooner’s CD will bow on Feb. 5, 2013 via Mo-B Entertainment and distributed by Capitol/EMI.
