Spin-Off: “R&B Divas” Los Angeles Cast Announced

The success of season one of TV One’s reality series “R&B Divas” has spawned a Los Angeles spin-off, “R&B Divas: LA.”

The original season was set in Atlanta and starred singers Faith Evans, Nicci Gilbert-Daniels, Monifah Carter, Syleena Johnson and Keke Wyatt.

Those ladies are currently shooting their second season with the additional of two new cast members, Angie Stone and LaTocha Scott from Xscape.

Now, TV One has formally announced the six ladies who will star in the Los Angeles edition of the franchise.

Angie Stone & LaTocha Scott join original “R&B Divas”

“R&B Divas: LA” will feature Kelly Price, Lil’ Mo, Claudette Ortiz of City High, Chante Moore, Michel’le and Dawn Robinson of En Vogue.

The offshoot will begin production this month in Los Angeles and is slated to premiere on TV One in the third quarter of this year.

The eight-episode series will allow viewers watch the singers work to re-establish themselves in the music industry, dealing with personal drama and their interactions with each other.

Kelly Price & Lil’ Mo

Of the cast members, Grammy-winner Kelly Price has maintained the most viable career in recent years. Her 2011 CD, “Kelly,” landed her three Grammy nominations in 2012 and she was the last singer to perform with Whitney Houston the night before she died.

Hip-hop star Lil’ Mo regularly performs spot dates and released an independent CD, “P.S. I Love Me” via Bronx Bridge Entertainment in 2011. She also hosted a successful afternoon radio show in Washington, DC while taking time off to raise her four children.

Chante Moore & Dawn Robinson

Chante Moore’s last musical offering was 2008’s “Love the Woman.” That CD , led by one single, ‘It Ain’t Supposed To Be This Way,’ basically went unnoticed. After nearly a two-year process, she and ex-husband, R&B singer Kenny Lattimore were finally divorced this past January.

Dawn Robinson has not been featured on an actual recording since reuniting in 2005 with her En Vogue members for Stevie Wonder’s ‘So What the Fuss’ on his CD, “A Time to Love.” She recently formed a new group with En Vogue member Maxine Jones, but they announced their breakup after one concert. Claudette Ortiz & Michel’le

Claudette Ortiz became a pop superstar as part of Wyclef Jean’s trio City High. The group had a controversial split and Ortiz went on to marry group member Ryan Toby, which ended in 2007. An attempt at a solo career never happened and Ortiz considered enlisting in the Air Force reserves to ensure her family’s financial stability.

1980’s star Michel’le last recording was the song ‘I Know Where I’m Going’ on the “Dysfunktional Family” soundtrack in 2003. She is the ex-wife of hip-hop mogul Suge Knight and the couple have one daughter together.
