One More Try: Michael Jackson Protégés Brownstone Reuniting Again

This week in Atlanta, Brownstone singer Nicci Gilbert-Daniels appeared on radio personality Egypt’s mid-day show on V-103 to announce that the group would be reuniting for a tour.

This is Brownstone’s second attempt at a reunion effort. On Oct. 1, 2009, I reported exclusively for my “BV Buzz” column for AOL Black Voices that the group was planning a reunion then.

Apparently Daniels – now a cast member on TV One’s hit reality series, “R&B Divas,” – is hoping the heightened visibility of the show will help Brownstone really re-launch this time.

The tour effort will include founding member Maxee Maxwell and a new member, Teisha Brown.

Neither founding member Mimi Doby – who left the group in 1995 – nor her replacement Kina Cosper – who is now a rock singer– have any desires to perform with Brownstone again.

Daniels previously told me that Brown was the perfect addition to the trio.

“Teisha brings so much to the group! She’s a Detroit girl straight from the church, so we will be sangin’ during these shows and on this record for sure,” Daniels said then.

Brown is the second replacement member in Brownstone. In early 2009, a singer named Racquel Roberts performed as a replacement member with the group as well.

Best known for hits like ‘If You Love Me,’ ‘Grapevine’ and ‘5 Miles To Empty,’ the 90’s R&B trio was the only girl group signed to Michael Jackson’s MJJ Music.
