Beyoncé: Singer Supports Marriage Equality

Beyoncé is an avid supporter of President Barack Obama—she and husband, Jay-Z raised lots of money for his campaign fundraising effort and she performed the National Anthem during President Obama’s inauguration earlier this year. The Grammy-winning singer has also worked on fitness campaigns with his wife, First Lady Michelle Obama.

Following in President Obama’s footsteps—he came out in support of same-sex marriage in May 2012—Beyoncé wants everyone to be able to ‘put a ring on it’ and is lending her voice to the marriage equality movement.

In a message released on her various social media platforms, the ‘Love on Top’ singer posted a handwritten letter that said: “If you like it you should be able to put a ring on it.”

She concluded the message with: “# we will unite 4 marriage equality!”

In a previous interview with CNN, Beyoncé said she believed that discrimination against gays was no different than the civil rights movement Black people faced.

“It’s no different than discriminating against blacks,” she said. “It’s discrimination, plain and simple.”
