Churchin: New York’s Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral Releases Debut CD

AlwaysAList.com recently traveled to New York City to attend the CD release concert of The Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral.

The famed mega church, located in Jamaica, New York, released their debut album, “Rev. Floyd Flake Presents the Worship Experience” on RCA Inspiration.

Within 24 hours of its release, the CD was ranked #1 in iTunes Christian/Gospel sales. The disc also debuted at number two on Billboard’s Top Christian/Gospel sales chart.

The CD is led by the single, ‘Greater,’ which features outstanding lead vocals by season four “Sunday Best” finalist Michael Pugh. The song is currently a Top 20 song at Gospel radio and continues to grow.

“Rev Floyd Flake Presents the Worship Experience” also features lead vocals by Rev. Darius Dayce, Tamika Smith-Frederick, Linwood Smith Jr., Chastidy Elliot, Katrice “Binky” Walker and Carl Robinson. The CD also has a remake of the Walter Hawkins’ classic, ‘Jesus Christ is the Way,’ featuring Delores Bowman on lead vocals.

Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral has more than 23,000 members. The pastor of the church, Rev. Floyd Flake, is a former member of the United States House of Representatives and is currently president of Wilberforce University.

Releasing a CD by his church choir was a “dream come true” for him.

“Gospel music provides a sense of hope and a feeling of direct contact and relationship with God because, for the most part, the music is focused on biblical interpretation and therefore helps to give people a feeling of goodness about what God is doing in their life. God has blessed us [at Greater Allen] to have so many creative people and they all used the maximum of their talent to ensure that they gave their very best to this project. Every song speaks to something and someone, and that makes me very proud of this CD,” said Rev. Flake.
