Jennifer Hudson: Family Killer Sentenced To Life In Prison
Justice has been served in the Jennifer Hudson family killings case. That man convicted of murdering the Oscar winner’s mother, brother and nephew has been sentenced to life in prison.
Circuit Judge Charles Burns in Chicago imposed three life sentences today on William Balfour, who was convicted on May 11, 2012 of first-degree murder in the 2008 killings.
Hudson was in the courtroom for Balfour’s sentencing. Judge Burns also denied a request from Balfour for a new trial.
Balfour faced a mandatory life sentence and Illinois does not have the death penalty. Prosecutors believed that Balfour killed Hudson’s family members in a vengeful jealous rage because the “Dreamgirls” star’s sister Julia broke up with him and had started dating another man.
“We have many people to thank, but our first thank you is to God. We want to extend a prayer from the Hudson family to the Balfour family. We have all suffered terrible loss in this tragedy. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled in them that perish: in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn upon them (2 Corinthian 4:3-4). It is our prayer that the Lord will forgive Mr. Balfour of these heinous acts and bring his heart into repentance someday,” it read.
A formal statement on the sentencing has not been released by the Hudson family.
