Lee Daniels’ The Butler: Continues To Clean Up At Box Office

For the third consecutive week, “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” has come in at the top spot at the box office.

In a surprise victory over the record revenue Labor Day weekend, “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” grossed $20 million over the four-day holiday, which takes its domestic box office total to $79.3 million.

The film starring Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey beat out the 3D concert documentary “One Direction: This Is Us” (#2), “We’re the Millers” (#3), and “Instructions Not Included” (#4).

The Weinstein Co.-distributed film has completely made back its $30 million budget.

“The audience continues to broaden out and get younger,” said TWC distribution chief Erik Lomis.

Could “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” pull off a fourth week at number one next weekend? Only time will tell!
