Ruben Studdard: Dropping Pounds & New Music Too

“American Idol” winner Ruben Studdard has dropped over 115 pounds since appearing on NBC’s “The Biggest Loser.”

Now the soul singer has signed with Verve Records and under the direction of David Foster will release a new CD of classic songs, in addition to two new ones.

The CD, “Unconditional Love” will be Studdard’s first CD in two years and be lead by the single ‘Meant To Be.’

“‘Unconditional Love’ is my most romantic album yet. I’ve wanted to record many of these love songs for a really long time. It’s the most heartfelt album I’ve ever recorded and includes many of my favorite songs from all different eras,” said Studdard.

Foster is one of the producers for Studdard’s latest CD. The record will also include production by R&B star Eric Benet.

The album also contains a remake of the Syreeta Wright and Billy Preston standard ‘With You I’m Born Again’ that Studdard has recorded as a duet with jazz great Lalah Hathaway. Studdard and Hathaway are also embarking on a tour together starting in February 2014.

Studdard, nicknamed “The Velvet Teddy Bear” by soul great Gladys Knight, will released “Unconditional Love” on Feb 4, 2014.
