Center Stage: Broadway Star Billy Porter Releasing New CD

Tony Award-winning Broadway veteran Billy Porter is gearing up for the release of his new CD, “Billy’s Back on Broadway” (Concord Records).

The album, Porter’s first solo offering since his 2005 independent release, “At the Corner of Broadway + Soul,” comes on the one year anniversary of his starring role in the critically acclaimed Cyndi Lauper/Harvey Fierstein-produced Broadway show, “Kinky Boots.”

“Billy’s Back on Broadway” features 10 classic Broadway songs with a new twist. The disc will feature a duet with Lauper, who also penned the original songs Porter performs in “Kinky Boots.”

Among the songs featured on “Billy’s Back on Broadway” are ‘I Am Changing’ (“Dreamgirls”), ‘I’m Not My Father’s Son’ (“Kinky Boots”), ‘Everything’s Coming Up Roses’ (“Gypsy”), ‘Don’t Rain on My Parade’ (“Funny Girl”), ‘On the Street Where You Live’ (“My Fair Lady”), ‘I’ve Gotta Be Me’ (“Golden Rainbow”), ‘Happy Days/Get Happy’ (“Everyday Rapture”), ‘Luck Be a Lady’ (“Guys and Dolls”), ‘Take the Moment’ (“Do I Hear a Waltz?”), ‘But the World Goes Round’ (“And the World Goes ‘Round”).

The 44-year-old entertainer’s CD, “Billy’s Back on Broadway” hits stores April 15 via Concord Records.

Prior to his award-winning role in “Kinky Boots,” the Pittsburgh-bred talent starred in Broadway productions like “Grease,” “Topdog/Underdog,” “Dreamgirls” and “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

In 1997, Porter released his debut solo CD, “Untitled” via A&M Records and that CD featured the hit song, ‘Show Me.’
