TV Trinity: Shonda Rhimes Producing Three Shows On ABC This Fall

It’s a good time to be TV producer Shonda Rhimes.

The 44-year-old producer/writer will have three series on ABC when the new fall season rolls around.

The Disney-owned network has renewed Rhimes’ hit dramas “Scandal” and “Grey’s Anatomy” for an additional season, as well as picked up her new drama starring Viola Davis called “How To Get Away With Murder.”

“Grey’s Anatomy,” which stars Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens, Jr., and Jesse Williams, will be returning for its 11th season.

Columbus Short

Season 10 saw the exit of original cast member Sandra Oh who played Dr. Cristina Yang, and the brief return of Isaiah Washington who came back to the series to help wrap up Oh’s storyline.

The Kerry Washington political drama “Scandal” will return for season four.

Actor Columbus Short will not return to the Washington, DC-based series, as ABC let him go after a string of domestic issues and public violence landed in legal trouble. Rhimes shot down rumors on Twitter that Short’s character Harrison Wright would be recast.

Hollywood veteran Debbie Allen directed multiple episodes of both “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal” this past season.

New to the ABC lineup this fall will be Rhimes’ new series, “How To Get Away With Murder.” This will be the Chicago-bred TV mogul’s second show starring a Black woman. Two-time Oscar nominee Davis will play Professor Annalise Dewitt on the drama.
