D’Angelo: Finally Readying Album After 14-Year Delay?

Is D’Angelo finally readying his new music? According to his manager Kevin Liles, the CD could finally hit stores this year.

In an interview with Billboard, Liles claims that D’Angelo will drop his album “sooner than later.”  Though he couldn’t give a specific date or a working title of the album, he did assure that “there’ll be an album this year.”

This isn’t the first time that fans have gotten their hopes up about D’Angelo’s follow-up to 2000’s “Voodoo.”  The 40-year-old crooner’s junior release was originally slated for 2007, then 2009, and again then 2010.

In 2011, D’Angelo started touring in both the United States and internationally there was talk of the CD finally dropping in 2012.  It didn’t! But now, Liles says we can expect the album later this year.

Despite his level success in music, the forthcoming CD is only D’Angelo’s third studio album.  He made his debut with “Brown Sugar” in 1995 and his sophomore release “Voodoo” came five years later in 2000.

The Richmond, Virginia-bred singer is gearing up to perform some concert dates this summer.

He’ll perform at the Afropunk Festival in Brooklyn, New York in August, as well as a James Brown tribute at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

In October, D’Angelo heads to Australia for Soulfest where he’ll perform alongside Maxwell, Angie Stone, Common, Anthony Hamilton, Musiq Soulchild and others.  In early 2015, he kicks off a full international tour.
